Holy Cow!

Well I am totally a bad blogger.  If it wasn't for a recent comment on a post I would have totally forgotten about this.  A lot of things have happened since I last posted, some good and some tragic.  I am going to try and start posting again on a regular basis and decided to start it off with a more recent shot of Bokeh.

This photo was taken just last weekend in my back yard.  It started to snow a little and my wife wanted some snow pics.

Day 31 "Sean"

So last Saturday my wife's cousin Sean stopped by to visit.  He happened to come over on a day where I was taking our weekly shots of our puppy Bokeh.  So I was playing around with the various effects on my camera and he was an unwilling, and unknowing, guinea pig!  LOL

This was taken in Black and White in the camera its self.  It was not converted.  I prefer to do it this way as the camera seems to interpret the shades better than the conversion process of most programs.  This was taken in natural light and then touched up per my normal processing.

I am pretty happy with how it came out, especially since it was just a quick shot.

Day 30 "Watchful Eye"

When I was shooting the football game I saw the coach watching from the sidelines and thought it would make an awesome shot.  I liked the way that the shadow stretched out and he was watching the game.

When editing the photo something said Black and White to me and I think it came out pretty good.

Day 29 "44"

So last year a friend of my wifes asked me to come out and shoot one of her sons JV football games.  It was only the second time I shot a football game, the other being a night game, and I was excited to get out and shoot it.

I had a blast and had pretty much full run of the field.  Got some great stuff I think and tried out some different editing stuff while I was at it.

Here is a more natural style of shot I took:

And here is the same shot with some alternate editing style I was playing with at the time:

The differences are subtle but they are there.  What do you think?

Day 28 "Bokeh"

Ok so here is a good example of both my puppy and what his name means.

His "Stage" name is "Peakview Wigglebutt Fuzzy Blur" But we call him Bokeh.

Bokeh, for those who dont know, is a term used in Photography to describe the aesthetic quality of the blur in the portion of a photo thats out of focus.  The term comes from the Japanese word boke , which means "blur" or "haze".

The example in this photo is the gravel behind his head.  The size and shape of the blur is determined by several factors including:
  • Focal Length
  • The shape of the aperture blades
  • And the size of the Aperture itself.
